Les Cayes
Today we went on an adventure! Josh, a guy from Texas who is working at the orphanage with us met a nun on his plane to Haiti. She invited us to come to Les Cayes to see where she works in a school. We certainly experienced Haitian time today. We understood we were to be picked up at 8am but really the driver left his city at 8am. As Americans clearly we have zero patience so we almost gave up waiting for our ride around 1:30pm. I'm so happy we did not! When our driver came & we headed to Les Cayes we saw why it took him sooo long to get to us...there was a major traffic jam. Of course we took a shortcut through a river :) Then there were men blocking the way that wanted people to pay to get through. By the grace of God we were right next to the police & they let us pass with no pay & no harm. We did not arrive in Les Cayes till about 7pm. The drive was BEAUTIFUL! We are staying in a catholic convent in Les Cayes. It is soooo very beautiful. The nun sister Judith is the most wonderful woman I have ever met. I love EVERYTHING about her! She even sang "I will follow him wherever he may go there isnt an ocean to deep...." Like on sister act! Too cool. They fed us an incredible feast. I was bursting with joy so much that I wanted to break into song. Tomorrow we will see schools and learn about this area. We are all thrilled! Thats all for now we are all very sleepy after a long day of travel. Look up Les Cayes, Sud, Haiti to see where we are.

Merry Christmas
Sorry I have not been very good about updating :( I have had a great few days here with the kids! I made them all bracelets with their names on them & it seemed like they liked them very much. My friend Pam sent Christmas Cards, cookies, & suckers the kids LOVED them! Chris another member of the Cornerstone Blan Haitians :) sent a big poster of the kids pictures. They went nuts! Rodrigo nailed it to the outside of the orphanage between the 2 girls rooms. They love it so much they just sit outside & talk about it all day everyday :) Pastor Kelly will be leaving home tomorrow for home. Please pray for him to have safe travels. A couple of the kids have gone. I'm sad to see them go. The ones who are no longer here are Marlie(Molly), Daniel, Sherline, Caleb his mom & sister, Telicienne, Ketia, Claudine, Rosemice, Bethanie, Widlene, Kerline, Roselande, and a couple other boys I was not familiar with. There are also 10 or so new boys. The boys orphanage is VERY nice. They have not moved in yet as it is not complete. They have also built a pastors quarters that looks nice too. One of Rodrigos friends from work sent a mini soccer goal & ball with us. We gave it to the boys & they LOVED it! Corine the woman who came with us collected underwear before coming. She gave it out to the boys & they were very happy. Soon we will pass out underwear & skirts to the girls and Im sure they will be happy as well. Thats all for now.

Tomorrow
We're leaving for Haiti...TOMORROW! It feels like I have waited forever & now its happening. Wow. Please pray for the people who are going with us to Haiti. Corine & her son River are leaving this evening. They have never been to Haiti before. Please pray they will handle everything ok the day before I get there to lay out the land :) Please pray for us all to get along well, do great things together, and of course for safety!
On the subject of safety I'm sure you know that there is some "political unrest" in Haiti right now. If you didn't now you do. I will probably have to change my return flight because of this. SO please pray everything works out & that God will guide me every step of the way.

Surprise!
I spoke with one of the translators my friend Fred yesterday. Near the end of our conversation he said to me, "Will you be here the 23rd?" Oh man! I wanted my trip to Haiti to be a surprise. I tried to play it off. I told him that I'd already been twice this year & why would I be coming again already? Then he said to me "Coi-Coo told Kinzey & he told me." I still tried to play it off & replied that I hadn't talked to Coi-Coo so I don't know why he would know something like that. To which Fred quickly informed me, "Gil told him." He had me there. So they know I am coming & that I am bringing my husband. I was the one who ended up with the surprise.
Less than 1 week to go & lots to do. You may be sick of hearing this but I am just completely overwhelmed by everyones generosity. Let me be blunt & say there is NO WAY we could have made it to Haiti on our own.
We are busy planning things to teach the kids about hygiene, relationships, expressing their feelings, and of course about our LOVING GOD! I hope to learn about their Christmas & New Years Traditions, to comfort them on the 1 year anniversary of the terrible earthquake that tore apart their lives, and to show them that they are loved everyday. I really am going to try to connect to the internet while I am there so that I can upload pictures & give you more detail then 1 txt message length. Bear with me...I am not the best writer, editor, or punctuation master, and I dont always express things clearly. I hope that I can give you a window into Leogane with what I say however I say it!

18 days & counting...
Rodrigo & I will be headed to Haiti for Christmas! We haven't raised all the money we need to raise yet, but we are confident in Christs ability to provide. We are very thankful to all our friends & family for your support(with words, prayers, and money). I hope that Rodrigo will love Haiti. I can't wait to see everyone and to start helping to improve some things. Please keep us in your prayers!

Thoughts..
It's funny I have so much to say about Haiti I could go on for days. Yet when it comes to organized talking about it I get speechless. Last Sunday I visited my family in Idaho & spoke to the church I grew up in about Haiti. Writing a "speech" was the hardest thing I have ever done. My best friend Lauren & I got the slideshow together and then we started writing an outline. Lauren & I were debate partners in highschool so this was pretty normal for us. Lets face it though its been 5+ yrs since highschool & I was a little rusty. I wrote a half hearted outline and went to bed. I woke up the next morning 3hrs before church started & got my butt in gear. My sister told me many times "Amy, God is not going to let you have this incredible experience & be quiet about it." So I just tried to keep that as my focus. I prayed that God would show me what I needed to say. Then the words started flowing. I realized I had a lot to share. I thought talking for 10 would be hard. My husband even said "Will you even be able to fill 10 minutes?" Strangely I felt the same way. Boy were we wrong!
When I got to Inkom Community Bible Church we tested the slideshow to see if it worked. It did. THANK GOD! I then had Pastor Russ Blair pray for me because I was very nervous. I cannot tell you how much that prayer calmed me.
When it was my turn to go up & speak I was ready! It was great because before I went up they were making some announcements & one happened to be about Samaritans Purse. I had seen the church bulletin board in the kitchen talking about Samaritans Purse & was going to bring them up as an organization to get involved with. Then it was my turn. I took Rodrigo's stopwatch with me so that I would talk for 10 minutes. I forgot about it though. Once I started talking I just couldn't stop I didn't say half the things I had planned to say & talked far beyond my 10 min increment. Apparently I also messed up a little. I was trying to describe how in my first week in Haiti baby Charley had BLOODY diarrhea & I thought he was going to die. Apparently I just said diarrhea so people probably didn't understand my concern. I'm sad I didn't share the many miracles I saw & they power of prayer I experienced. I hope that I got my message across. I was so touched after the service when people came up & talked to me about how it had touched their hearts.
I really hope people will get involved. Here are some great places to start:
Extollo International
Kids Against Hunger Pleasanton
Samaritans Purse
J/P HRO

Overwhelmed!
I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by a lot of things right now. Here's the crazy thing. Normally when you hear someone say I am overwhelmed you usually think that a lot of bad stuff is happening. I'm overwhelmed with all good things. I can't even tell you how many people called, emailed, or txted me yesterday asking "How can I help?" Haiti really has impacted many of our lives for the positive. It's amazing to see God working. I'm not a person who writes well & I can't even express how much gratitude I have. I know I've said it many times but that's because I am constantly humbled by my appreciation.
On to a subject I hate talking about. Money. A lot of people have told me that they would like to contribute financially to my trip. Whether it be to help pay for my expenses, pay for healthcare for the kids or whatever. I'm not technically going through the church so that makes things like taking money complicated. I guess all that I can say is you have my word. I will be happy to put your money towards whatever you want it to be put towards. For right now with all money questions I'm going to say email my husband Rodrigo tabletennisfool@gmail.com. My friend Derry who works for the Justice Ministry at Cornerstone will probably be arranging something so that everyone can get tax write offs & we can go about this the right way. Whatever happens with that Rodrigo can you lead you to her. Please make sure that whatever money you give you tell him what you want it to go to if you have specifics in mind.
I really need to pack so I have to go for now. I love you all. Thank you for your continued support.

Carlos Update
So Carlos has not had surgery on his Hernia. The details are a little unclear to me. Here's what i know for sure. This past week he was taken to Doctors without Borders where they were told that his hernia was not serious enough to require surgery. After he went back to the orphanage he complained of a stomach ache & had a fever.
I got an update today that he was feeling much better.
Keep him in your prayers please.

Getting Close now...
Wow! Time is flying by! I was just re-reading my other posts...and it seems like yesterday that I had a month to go! Now it's getting down to the wire.
This week I got my passport, and today I got all my flight information. It's crazy. I'm really going to Haiti! In the beginning I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be able to raise the money to go. Now I only have $311.67 left to raise by Saturday. My heart is overflowing with gratitude. I don't have the words to express how thankful I am. I soooo appreciate the support.

Getting everything ready to go...
Today was my first painful day getting ready for Haiti. I got my first shot for my Rabies vaccination, and have 2 more in the series to get. I also got a typhoid shot, and got my blood drawn to check out my immunities to other things. One week before I leave I have to start taking Chloroquine Phosphate(i.e. Malaria vaccination) and then once a week while I'm in a "malarious area" That's all for now! Just wanted to let you know whats happening with me. I REALLY REALLY appreciate everyones support :)

1 month away
31 days from now I will be headed to Haiti for 16 days! I'm nervous. I have to raise $2000! So far I have $120. I've decided to blog about this adventure I'm about to embark on so that you can see everything involved. From raising money to coming back......and EVERYTHING in between. I appreciate the all the love & support!
Below is a map of Haiti. I'll be going to either Leogane or Port-au-Prince depending on where the need is when it's my turn to go.
